Rocco was born with the odds against him - all tangled up in the birth cords of his litter mates. By a small miracle, the entangled litter was found soon after birth and taken to an emergency vet. That vet was able to separate the kittens and felt good to have saved 3 of the 4 but she didn't have much hope for saving Rocco's leg or even his life. One of his legs had all the circulation cut off to it and the vet was afraid that the leg was already dead. Her prognosis was that, if he survived, his damaged leg would soon fall off - possibly followed by infection and worse. She suggested that we consider humanely euthanizing little Rocco but we have seen the amazing ability of tiny kittens to heal from some really bad stuff so the decision was made to just wait and give him a chance. We really didn't know if he would make it to the next day and we were prepared for that if he didn't. Doing rescue brings joy, fulfillment and loads of heartache. The heartache could easily break a rescuer down if it weren't for the HOPE that we teach ourselves to look for. It is never an easy decision between humanely euthanizing a suffering animal or holding out hope for a pain-free future full of LOVE & FAMILY. The HOPE came in the form of an incredibly compassionate vet, Dr. Melissa, who offered to foster all 4 kittens and their feral mom. Having their mom to nurse and nurture them gave the kittens - especially Rocco - the very best chance of recovering from their traumatic birth and becoming healthy, loving adoptable kitties. Rocco was in the very best situation we could ask for and received constant treatments on his leg in an effort to save it. In the end, he only lost 3 toes and he doesn't miss those at all!! He is HAPPY & HEALTHY and ready for his new life to begin!! (Rocco was born on May 23, 2015)

Rocco will be looking for his new family at the PetSmart in Aventura on Saturdays & Sundays from 10am - 4pm. It is also possible to meet him during the week by filling out the application on-line and getting pre-approved. Two of  Rocco's litter mates are also still available  -  Kenya & Sonic. Though Rocco is in a different foster home, it wouldn't take them any time at all to get reacquainted if you are considering adding 2 new kittens to your family.
