Domestic Short Hair / Mixed (short coat) : : Female : : Adult : : Medium
Vida was 6 weeks old when she was caught in a trap in some bushes right beside a busy parking lot. Some ladies were trying to trap all the cats there to get them spayed and didn't realize there were any kittens until they found Vida & her brother together in one of the traps. Their mom had apparently kept them well hidden. It was obvious that they were not used to people and they were both terrified. They went right from the trap into a foster home to start getting ready for adoption into a wonderful home with a loving family and a "happy-ever-after". While her brother struggled to adjust, Vida's transformation moved along right as expected. Her foster mom took care of the technical stuff (vaccines, deworming, spay, etc.) and Vida mastered the ropes of toy mice, warm laps and socializing with other kittens & people. It wasn't long before she was ready for adoption and started spending weekends at PetSmart so her new family could find her there. Her brother (who, by the luck of fate, happened to look like a little Maine Coon Mix) was still terrified of people and was not ready for adoption so Vida made those weekend outings by herself. She lounged in a cat hammock, played with everyone she could reach through the cage bars and would do everything possible to get the attention of all the people passing by. She was adorable and friendly and tried to show how lovable she was going to be to the special family that chose her and took her home. She'd had no idea back then how much effort it was going to take but she stayed determined and tried again weekend after weekend. She got loads of smiles and sweet comments and friendly attention but not a single person who wanted to take her home. Just before she turned 1 1/2, Vida let us know she'd had enough of having to go back and forth every Saturday & Sunday. She lost interest in visiting with PetSmart customers and got defensive from all the fingers and feathers being jabbed through the cage at her. It's never easy to move a cat from a foster home environment into the Adoption Center at PetSmart. The worst part is that they have to spend a good part of the time in a cage when most of them were never in a cage in their foster home. The up-side is that they have the chance 7 days a week to be found by their forever families. Vida adjusted more quickly than a lot of cats do to living in the cat room and has been much happier not going back & forth every weekend but she is still waiting to be adopted. She turned 2 years old recently and has still never known what it feels like to have a home and to be part of a family. Her super shy brother did get adopted earlier this year just because he is part Maine Coon! Vida is beautiful (though not something fancy like a Maine Coon) with huge eyes that look right into your soul. She is a people cat. She is fine with other cats but she doesn't really bond with them. She bonds with her people. She isn't the happiest living in the cat room at PetSmart with 10 other cats in a small room but she's ok most of the time except when one of the large male cats picks on her - which it quite often. She is always on guard so she isn't the most relaxed there. She LOVES to be held and if someone would just trust the volunteers that know her well and take a chance on her they are going to have such a wonderful LOVING attentive companion. It is time for Vida to finally have a home of her own and a family to LOVE. Please take a chance and come meet her at the Aventura PetSmart Adoption Center Saturday or Sunday 9am - 5pm or Monday thru Friday 9am - noon or 6:30-9pm. Your visit could mean the world to Vida and the beginning of her "happy-ever-after". It could also means the start of years of LOVE for you and your family.
