Russian Blue / Domestic Short Hair / Mixed (short coat) : : Female : : Adult : : Medium
Life as Sage has known it has come to a screeching halt! She has known nothing but LOVE & security her whole life but her family is changing - and someone new is allergic to her - and, sadly, the decision was made that Sage could not stay. When a cat gets returned to us, if possible, it goes straight into the Adoption Center at PetSmart. Not because it is the easiest thing for the cat but because it is their best chance to be re-adopted. It is definitely NOT easy for a cat that has spent their entire life in a loving home to find itself in a cage in a room with a bunch of cats in a store with lots of strange people and barking dogs! So, we are asking for your help! Of course we want her to get a new home as quickly as possible but right now Sage is in major need of all the gentle LOVE & attention she can get. She just got returned on June 16 and she is lost and confused and incredibly sad. Many cats that get returned will spend the first days or weeks hissing & growling. Sage hasn't hissed. She hasn't growled or struck out or shown a single bit of aggression. At first she just searched the store with huge scared eyes and then she just hid her face as deep as she could in her bed. We've had plenty of cats returned so we are used to it but Sage's sweet gentle nature and her raw sadness had Adopt A Stray volunteers in tears. We would appreciate any time that anyone could spare in the morning or evening when the adoption center is open to just come over to the Aventura PetSmart and give Sage a few minutes of attention. And if you happen to fall in love with her and find that you can't live without her - well, that would be great!! But, mostly, right now she just needs all the love she can get. (We will post an update soon on how Sage is adjusting.) Info from Sage's dad: Sage has been the only animal in an adult home. She was returned to Adopt A Stray with lots of toys & a cat tower that all look well used. Her dad says that she is a little timid in a new situation and with new people but adjusts quickly and is actually quite playful. He says that she loves to play laser light tag so we know that she has a fun, playful side. He also says that she is a calm, gentle spirit and from what we have seen, we believe that to be true. He has always been able to trim her nails without her making a fuss and she doesn't have any accidents outside of the litter box. She sounds like a dream kitty for a calmer house-hold. Our guess it that she would probably get along just fine with another laid back cat.
