My name is Ashlee and I'm a 7 month old (as of 2/4/2016) gray and white maine coon mix lady.

I have a silky gray and white tuxedo pattern coat and bushy tail that I can wrap around myself when I nap.

I'm a charming, affectionate, good-natured snuggler and happy to accept all the love and attention anyone gives me.  I'm very laid back and calm and would make a wonderful couch companion although I occasionally have bouts of playfulness chasing balls and trying to catch the little red dot from the laser pointer without any luck getting it so far.

You may be scared away and not give me another glance since I have tested positive for feline FIV (Feline Immunodeficiency Virus).  But, if you let that deter you, you could be missing out on the best pet experience of your life.

I find that in general, most people don't understand what FIV is, and they think FIV+ cats are ill or sickly.  People fear FIV and want to know can humans catch it?  Can their dogs catch it?  Can I get sick from petting an FIV+ cat?

The answers are NO, NO and NO!

First of all, cats who are FIV+ can and do live long, happy  and healthy lives.  FIV is not transmittable to humans or other species - only cats - and can only be spread through severe bite wounds (not a playful nip) or blood transfusions.  Based on my personality, me biting another cat is highly unlikely.

FIV cannot be spread casually which includes litter boxes, water and food bowls, snuggling or playing.

And you are probably now wondering if it is difficult to care for an FIV+ cat.  Well, guess what - I need the same care as a cat that does not have FIV.  I require no special medications or additional care beyond the diligence you'd use in caring for any cat.  Just feed me a good diet, take me for annual doctor checkups and keep me indoors.

FIV is not the terrible thing it is made out to be and it should not be a sentence or a stigma that prevents a wonderful girl like me from coming into your home and getting the love I deserve.  But, don't just take my word for it, check out the article below:
